I found your website today in searching the net for info on brugmansias.

I'm very much a newbie to brugmansia. Purchased a home in Florida in which there is a brugmansia plant (but it's really a tree about 7 feet) in the front yard. It keeps sending out (periodically) small plantlets. Maybe these are called suckers?????? They surface approximately 4 to 8 feet from the Mother brugmansia. One of these plantlets surfaced about 2 years ago and is currently covered in beautiful orange blooms Can one dig these up and repot them? In searching the internet for info relative to this, I do not see that propagation is done in this manner??? The plantlets are such beautiful specimens. I would love to be able to repot them.

Any help you could give me relative to this would be deeply appreciated. Thank you sincerely.

Hi Jen

Thanks for your question.

Yes they can sucker from the roots, and some varieties seem to do so more than others. However your smaller plants may be seedlings - does the big plant make seed pods?

If they are suckers then the leaves and flowers on the smaller plants should be identical to the mother plant, and you may be able to find where they join the mother plant's roots underground. If they are seedlings they will almost certainly differ from the mother plant and not be connected to it.

Hope this helps.
